Tailoring PM²
EUPM² for Managing EU-Funded projects
PM² Tailoring Versions
PM² can be tailored to different project environments, sectors and policy priorities. The PM² Alliance supports tailored versions of PM² that help organisations, educators and professionals apply the methodology in specialised contexts.
EUPM²
PM² for Managing EU-Funded Projects
EUPM² is a PM² tailoring adapted to the specific needs of EU-funded grant projects. Developed through an Erasmus+ project, it integrates EU project design approaches with PM² to support the planning, governance, implementation, monitoring and control of projects funded by programmes such as Erasmus+, Horizon Europe and Interreg.
SPM²
Sustainable Project Management through PM²
SPM² is a PM² tailoring focused on integrating sustainability into project management education and practice. It supports higher education institutions, VET providers and professionals through a structured approach that includes curriculum development, digital resources, micro-credentials and certification pathways for sustainable project management.
Why tailoring?
- The European Union manages a vast portfolio of initiatives based on EU-funded grants. For instance, the Erasmus+ Programme (2014-2025) has funded 309,805 grant projects for a total amount of 36.16B€ in which over 1 million organisations have participated . Other funding programmes such as Horizon Europe or Life, also award thousands of grant projects each year. In the end, EU policy is largely implemented through projects.
- Despite the large volumes in terms of projects and budget involved, many project teams struggle with numerous challenges related to Project Management and the way to design, plan, implement and monitor their projects.
- EUPM² can help EU Project Managers to better integrate Project Governance, design, processes and monitoring and control in their daily work.
- PM² provides a common, practical and structured project management methodology that can support a wide range of projects, organisations and sectors. However, every project environment is different. Projects may vary in size, complexity, governance arrangements, stakeholder needs, regulatory requirements, funding conditions and expected outcomes.
- Tailoring PM² ensures that the methodology is applied in a way that is proportionate, relevant and effective for each specific context. It allows organisations and project teams to adapt PM² roles, processes, artefacts, governance structures, planning practices, monitoring mechanisms and terminology without losing the consistency and discipline of the methodology.
- Through tailored versions such as EUPM² and SPM², PM² becomes easier to apply in specialised areas, including EU-funded project management and sustainable project management. In this way, tailoring helps project managers, educators and organisations connect the strengths of PM² with the practical realities and strategic priorities of their projects.
